The Future Chemists Workshop provides an interactive learning environment and challenge for university students and leaders of tomorrow to design formulations that promote key industry trends including sustainability. This year’s sessions focus on skin care emulsions and rheology properties.

The Future Chemists Workshop at NYSCC Suppliers’ Day is where aspiring cosmetic chemists, students, and young formulators starting in their career get to learn about the basics in formulation as well as discover some tips and tricks taught by industry experts.
This workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 – during the first day of the Suppliers’ Day event with two (2) time slots available during the day (10:00am – 12:00pm -and- 1:30pm – 3:30 pm).
Winners of the Future Chemists Workshop will be announced during the Suppliers’ Day Awards Night Party at Stage 48 by our premier Platinum Sponsor!
A Future Chemist Workshop “season one” participant will be joining us and let us know how the workshop can help participants obtain valuable internship/co-op positions that can pave the way to becoming part of the cosmetics industry
To be part of the workshop, attendees must be registered, 18+ years of age. Safety procedures must be in place and participants must wear closed-toe footwear; safety equipment such as lab coats, goggles, masks, and gloves will be provided.
About the Instructors
Team Captain: Skin Care Emulsions
Yelena received her M.S. in Organic Chemistry from Moscow University of Chemical Technology, and he M.A. In Cosmetic science from FDU. Yelena has over 20 years of experience in Personal Care. She worked for Ashland (ISP), Guest packaging, Limited Brands, Sensient and Presperse. Up until two years ago she was in R&D role, primarily with a concentration in applications and innovation. Recently she moved into new business development/sales role. She is the author of several articles and multiple patents. Currently Yelena is consulting, and can be reached at YelenaZol@gmail.com
Dr. Elizabeth Kaufman, Ph.D.
Team Captain: Rheology Properties
Dr. Elizabeth Kaufman works at BYK as a senior research chemist in charge of surface and defoamer additives. She defended her PhD in polymer chemistry from NYU in 2017. Her work in the Weck group focused on the synthesis and biological applications of dendrimers. In 2014 she was awarded the Kramer Fellowship.
Christina Bishop holds a Masters in Cosmetic Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Montclair State University. Her diverse professional background includes both raw material suppliers and finished goods manufacturers such as Avon and Croda – with a focus in the areas of hair care/personal care development and claims evaluation. She currently works for Coty Inc. as one of the Senior Managers in Hair Color Product Development for Clairol.
