Catalent has proactively developed an advanced topical for skin brightening, the Superstar Brightening Drone. This formula takes a multi-targeted approach to address the range of factors that impact skin pigmentation, such as melanin synthesis, glycation, stress induced pigmentation, UV oxidation, inflammation, and pollution. Clinical data shows overall lightening and decrease in color intensity of dark spots by 18.83% and of the skin by 9.57%. More than 90% of subjects assessed showed improvement of skin color homogeneity, brightness, smoothness, elasticity, and tone. David Carson is a Product Development Manager at ALPS. He has always been interested in making things and making them better. After studying Chemical Engineering at the University of South Florida, he found a fit at ALPS where they make lives better. Always looking to improve and get involved, David enjoys the full range of challenges within product development all the way to sales. Outside of the office he will easily be found playing with his sons or designing innovative solutions for his home. Sarah Kovach is the Senior Market Manager for Personal Care for Stepan Company. She has been with Stepan for seven years, previously serving in technical and product development roles within R&D. Sarah is responsible for growing Stepan’s current and future Personal Care portfolio through strategic marketing and business development efforts as well as directing and supporting Stepan’s global R&D, sales, and marketing teams in product commercializations and promotions. Sarah holds her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame and M.S. in Chemistry from DePaul University.

Sanjiv Mehra is the co-founder of eos, which has grown from an idea to a market leading, multinational business, based on a solid platform of practices and thought that are characteristic of the best CPG companies in North America. He is responsible for the expansion of HP’s business to India, and the first off-shore outsourced software operation for HP and for India. Sanjiv was a senior member of the team that started Pepsi’s operations in India and other international markets. Prior to eos, Sanjiv was with Unilever’s North American Home & Personal Care Division. With private equity funding Sanjiv started Phoenix Brands, with the purchase of a portfolio of brands from Unilever and subsequently acquired an additional portfolio of laundry brands from Colgate.
Linda Goldstein is widely recognized as one of the leading advertising lawyers in the country. She regularly provides advertising counsel and regulatory advice to leading Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies in many different product and service categories, including telecommunications, wireless, retailing, publishing, entertainment, digital media, gaming, food and beverage, and financial services. She represents clients in investigative and enforcement proceedings brought by the Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general, district attorneys, and other federal and state agencies with jurisdiction over advertising and marketing practices, and she has handled some of the highest-profile matters, setting industry precedents. Immersed in all aspects of the digital media ecosystem, Linda spends much of her time advising clients on how to minimize the legal risks associated with mobile marketing, e-retail, online communities, social influencers, native advertising, email and telemarketing, sweepstakes and contests, fantasy sports leagues, and casual gaming. Linda also handles all transactional matters relating to the dissemination of advertising campaigns, including sponsorship agreements, agency-client agreements, talent and music agreements, and production agreements.
As a result of her breadth of knowledge and extensive experience, as well as her grasp of the legal climate, Linda is regularly called upon by national, business and trade publications to share her knowledge of the advertising and marketing industry. Nick Vallillo is an Applications Scientist at Croda Inc, providing technical service for all products in the Beauty market segment, developing formulations to showcase Croda’s ingredients and performing laboratory testing. Nick joined Croda Inc in 2018. Previously Nick was with Church & Dwight as an Associate Chemist. Nick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Micro/Molecular/Cell Biology from Kutztown University.
Kelly Templeton has worked within FDA-regulated industries for the last 18 years. In her current business development role, she brings Catalent’s formulation development, manufacturing and turn-key solutions to companies in Western North America. Her background includes quality management and GMP auditing, as well as business development and project management for clinical, safety, microbiology and analytical chemistry testing in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and medical device industries. Kelly holds a degree in communication and business from Purdue University.
Karly M. Ehrhardt has been an integral part of the Catalent Beauty team for almost 5 years, and in the cosmetic industry overall for more than 10 years. During her time at Catalent, Karly has brought innovation and growth based on current market trends to various cosmetic company portfolios through multiple global channels. She has worked with Catalent’s customers in the US and Canada, with a focus on the unit dose CosmoPod® capsule. Karly holds a degree from Penn State University, with a background in finance prior to moving into cosmetics.
Charmain Hoffstead-Fordyce is currently the project/innovation manager for BASF Colors and Effects cosmetics line of pigments. She proactively drives the development of effect pigments for color cosmetics and personal care, ensuring a sustainable project pipeline. Charmain has thirteen (13) years of experience in the effect pigments industry. She spent twelve (12) years working as a research chemist developing new/next generation fine particle decorative products and associated technology at BASF. She has contributed to the development of numerous high-performance effect pigments for applications in cosmetics & personal care, automotive coatings, and consumer goods packaging.
Prior to joining BASF Charmain worked as a high school chemistry teacher. She holds a BS degree in Chemistry from CUNY Brooklyn college and a Master of Business Administration degree from Mount Saint Mary College.
Charmain is the coauthor of the 2016 IFSCC publication “Optical Illusion: Creating Visual Impressions with Effect Pigments”. This publication highlights the evolution of the effect pigments technology and how improved technologies translate to cosmetics application. She is also an effect pigments patent contributor.
Charmain is a member of the ACS, NYSCC & CEW professional groups. She is an active believer in the term “Paying it forward”. As a result she serves as the director of a pathfinder youth group, using her efforts to develop, support and inspire young people.
Fred Ortiz has a combined 20+ years experience in the Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical industries, with hundreds of formulas and applications under Kobo Products. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Montclair University in Montclair, New Jersey with a minor in Pre-Med. Following his experience in the pharmaceutical industry, he took up a position in the cosmetic industry learning about pigments, treatments, microspheres, fibers and film formers.
Fred’s formulation ability enables him to develop products across the categories in the Application Lab at Kobo.
With 18 years’ experience in the Industrial Biotech industry, Piera Pericu has been leading the Global Applications team at DuPont, working on technical challenges in various Industrial Processing markets. In that role, Piera focused on finding solutions toward more sustainable textile processing. In 2013, Piera became the Product Manager in Personal Care with responsibility for the DuPont™ GENENCARE® OSMS product line. In her current role as Market Segment Leader for Personal Care, she is responsible for managing the current product portfolio as well as the future project pipeline.
Working closely with business management and research, Stephanie Biagini is responsible for executing all promotional activities for the commercial effect pigment line. Beyond her global application management role, Stephanie supports the production quality and sales team by offering her insight and sharing her knowledge of effect pigment use in cosmetic applications.
For the last four years, Stephanie has added a focus in cosmetic application research. She endeavors to support cosmetic chemists in the industry by aiding in their understanding of effect pigments and effect pigment behavior in formulation. She is the primary author of “The Impact of Interference Effect Pigments for Color Adjustment” (IFSCC, 2018), as well as “Impact of Effect Pigments in Color Cosmetics” (NYSCC, 2015). These publications focus on describing the performance of effect pigments for product development and claim substantiation in both color cosmetics and skin care formulations. Stephanie is also the coauthor of “Evaluating the Drying Time of Aqueous Polymer Systems using a Rheometer” (IFSCC, 2016) and “Creating Vibrant Color Cosmetics with Multilayer Effect Pigments” (IFSCC 2018).
Apart from her previously published work, Stephanie is routinely looking for new, non-traditional ways to use effect pigments and areas to focus her research. Her current interests are the use of effect pigments for temporary hair coloring, a growing trend in the market, as well as continuing her study of the behavior of effect pigments on diverse skin tones.
Paul Sapsford is Sales & Marketing Manager for Keraplast Manufacturing, a supplier of unique functional keratin proteins that are used in registered wound care devices, skin care and hair care formulations around the world. Keraplast holds over 180 patents on these proteins and is acknowledged as the world leader in the commercial production of bio-available, soluble keratin for the personal care market.
Kinjal Joshi, Associate Research Scientist in the Personal Care group of Dow, earned her bachelor in Pharmacy from Ganpat University, India, in 2005 and a MS degree in Biotechnology / Applied Molecular Biology from Thomas Jefferson University,Philadelphia, PA, in 2009. Her research included examination of retina-specific human ABCR protein, characterization of its extracellular domain, and elucidation of their role in several inherited macular degenerative diseases.
Kinjal joined Dow Personal Care in 2010. In her role, she has helped advance various technical and market opportunities for the business. Her accomplishments include new technology innovation in small molecule chemistry (AgeCap™ Smooth Cosmetic ingredient), acrylate-based SPF booster (SOLTEX™ INO Polymer), acrylate-based polymers for water resistance (Epitex™ AC), and she has also championed an active delivery platform with Dow cellulosic-based polymers. Her most recent commercial launch in 2019 is MaizeCare™ Style
polymer, which is the first 100% bio-based hair fixative in Dow’s personal care portfolio. She has 5 granted patents consisting of innovations in skin, sun, hair and oral care applications.
